Back Stories in Progress:

Tang: Tangs parents were killed off by the Huns, so Tang was taken in by his Grandfather, who was a scribe for the magistrate. There he learned develop his skills as a scribe, poet, and illumanator. As a gift from his grandfather, he was given a dragon kite, which he flew during festivals and times of mourning. Tang's village were going through dark times with poverty and corruption. So when his grandfather died, he journeyed out of China in search of greater wisdom.
When Tang finally came to Kells, he became a monk and worked as an illumanator, healer, and tailor. Tang strong friendships with the brothers and enjoyed sharing tails of his culture. But one of Tang's closest friendships was with Abbot Cellach, even though he didn't allow him to take out his dragon kite... Though he secretly let little Brendan fly it when his uncle wasn't looking. And despite the abbot's stubborn behavior and refusal to consider the brothers advise or complaints, Tang was the only one he'd listen to... Especially after the viking's attack on Kells. When Cellach became too sick with grief, Tang took over and took care of the remaining villagers in the abbey. Swallowing his sadness over his lost brothers, when the sky had no light and was dark as ash, he'd bring out the dragon kite in hopes that the souls of his dead friends would have a guide to the skies when all other lights were enshrouded in shadow.

Brendan: Brendan had lived in a small village with his parent's and relatives when he was an infant. His family worked as hunters until the Vikings came and massacred them. After Brendan was rescued by his uncle he was taken in and raised by the monks of Kells. He was mainly kept busy by his uncle, the Abbot, so he rarely got the chance to be with kids his age. fav.me/d3bh28z like Riley, the mischievous trouble maker of the abbey, he would usually be with the refugee's kids playing hurling. How Brendan met him was a bit of an accident, he was taking plans to the abbot, as usual, when suddenly he got hit with the ball XD. Riley would bring things from the outside to show Brendan, who wasn't allowed to go beyond the walls. Cellach thought that Riley was a bad influence on his nephew and forbid Brendan to be with Riley.... Doesn't Cellach let Brendan do ANYTHING!?

Aisling: Aisling was once a princess of the forest, her father showed her how to rule the forest with a gentle hand, and her mother taught her how to unlock her forms *salmon, deer, and wolf* and connections with the plants and creatures of the woods. She befriended other young spirits from other clans, but she never bothered to consult with a human... Until Brendan came. Later pagans had unleashed Crom Cruach from his layer in search for power. Aisling's people tried to hold him back, he stole their youth and magic and devoured them... All except Aisling who remained as a guardian, protecting her forest from the dark invader.

Aidan: Aidan's father seemed to ignore them and he wasn't around too often... so Aidan never knew too much about his father... Only that he always seemed to be disappointed in Aidan for some reason. They lived in a small village and bread/took care of horses for the stables.
Enya, Aidan's mom, had noticed Aidan's drawing talents and encouraged Aidan unleash his imagination and never give up, no matter the dark times. While his father thought Aidan was wasting his time drawing in the mud/dirt and didn't do any good to get work done... He would step on them occasionally, whether it was by accident or not. The truth was that the people that lived there were very superstitious, and the elders were spreading gossip about the strange left-handed stable boy with purple eyes, people started believing that Aidan was a witch of some sort or a bad omen.
One day Aidan's home got attacked by a scourge, Enya had burned her hands trying to save Aidan from being crushed under the burning pillars while his father died fighting the scourge *after he realized the wrong in his ways and tried to protect them for once*. They left their home to seek sanctuary at Iona. On the way a storm hit and their boat crashed into the rocks and sank; Aidan got cast into the sea while Enya got crushed into the rocks. Aidan was rescued from the storm and was taken in by the monks, and abbot Matthias. Where he befriended the apprentices who were working on the book... And came intact with a forest spirit.

Cellach: Cellach had always wanted to make his family proud, so he was sent to Kells to become a monk. His master however was very strict on him, and kept him translating manuscripts. One day, Aidan came by with Matthias, and Aidan trained Cellach. He would have been his apprentice, if Abbot Arsalan didn't want to use him.

Leonardo: Leo, had a passion for both food and art, and the abbey was in need of a chief. The food dishes they were given were rather bland, yet somehow Leonado could bring flavor lentil soup and trout... Secret ingredient???

Square: Square gave Tang refuge, when he was on his path of wisdom. And after hearing Tang's stories of what had been through, Square decided to leave his farm and join Tang to seek out his life as a poet. He never did tell his parents that he was joining a catholic monastery, since his family was muslin, and he knew they wouldn't have approved.

Assoua: Lions always strayed onto the Savannah where Assoua lived, and one day a you lion cub got caught in one of his father's traps. However Assoua persuaded his parent's not to kill it, and set it free... The next day it came back. In secret Assoua took care of the cub and would play with it.
However there came a day when the cub became a huge lion and he became more and more difficult to keep in secret. So one day he led the lion to a river with a sac of meat and bid him farewell. But then Assoua and his people were attacked by a rival clan. Assoua was about to be killed with the others, when suddenly his lion appeared and battled the clan members. The attackers ran away, but the lion was inflected with terrible wounds. Assoua and his people tried to mend the lion, but there was nothing they could do. So Assoua stayed by his pet as the sun went down and let the big cat breath it's last breath.
So when Assoua became a monk, and he was left in charge of the abbot's nephew, he'd tell him the story of the golden lion.

Some of these I'm still trying to develop!
